Angel in the Garden

In just a few short weeks, sweet Maggie will be making her First Holy Communion!  It was so much fun seeing this beautiful little girl seem to flutter around the gardens yesterday like a peaceful little angel.  So for this session, I decided to name my blog post after one of my favorite poems, instead of one of my favorite songs, which I typically tend to do.  It’s a beautiful poem and I thought it was fitting, especially since my Saturday session took place in the garden, with this sweet little angel named Maggie.  🙂

So here is the poem, followed by a sneak peek from our afternoon together.  Enjoy!

Angel in the Peacock Garden

I built a garden, brick-by-brick
a place to sit and pray
And as I planted each new bud
I’d closed my eyes to say

Dear angel in my garden
please listen to my prayer
and lift these words up to the Lord
for children everywhere

I built a garden, day-by-day
a place to find my way
And as I tended to each plant
I’d hear the angels say,

Dear mother in the garden
we’ve listened to your prayer
the Lord will help in his own way
have patience, don’t dispare

I pull the weeds and fertilize
the roses reach the sky
and as I pray I feel the angels
as they pass on by

Dear God in Heaven, thank you for
your guidance that you send
through angels in my garden
this holy place I tend.

Such precious memories. Sweet, sweet face. Beautiful images!

The Sweetest Thing!

As you know (or maybe don’t know), most of the titles of my postings are named after songs I like.  I had a hard time with this one because there were a few that came to mind.  “It’s a Miracle” (yes, I admit, I am a Culture Club fan and a proud teenager of the 80’s) was the first song that came to mind because during my session yesterday afternoon with the sweet little Alexis, I kept thinking to myself that it was indeed a miracle that this tiny just-over-two-year-old was not fussing, or whining, or crying because of the chilly temperature outside.  “Freeze Frame” was another song that came to mind because it was just short of freezing out there it seemed, under the blanket of clouds, even though the forecast had originally called for some sun that afternoon.  Well, I finally decided to name my posting, simply, “The Sweetest Thing”.  Not only because I am a huge U2 fan, but because little Lexi was nothing short of the Sweetest Thing during our session late yesterday afternoon.  Despite the chill in the air, and despite the fact that her little body was at times shivering while she and I hunted for the bunny in the grass, she was a complete little angel the entire time!  I photographed Lexi last year with her cousins when she was just a tiny little peanut, so I was super excited to take some more pictures of her and her delightful mommy and daddy.  So here is the sneak peek I promised little Lexi.  I hope you like your pictures, sweetheart!  You are a beautiful little girl and The Sweetest Thing ever!

My Special Angel

Six years ago today, God blessed our family with a very special angel.  Catherine Grace, better known as Catie (or Kay Kay as I sometimes call her), appeared into this world and has given us nothing but delight and joy ever since.  She’s like my little flower that keeps blooming, over and over again.  She’s like that little breath of fresh air that you get when you first wake up in the morning and stick your head out the window to feel that chilly, “early Spring” air hitting you in the face.  It’s the way her eyes curve like half moons when she smiles that makes me feel like I’m looking at a beautiful paisley print.  It’s her soft little voice when she sings to me that makes my heart leap with love.  It’s the hundreds of times she tells me she loves me, for no reason at all, out of the clear blue.  And it’s the passion she has for anything artsy, anything musical, and anything at all having to do with cats and kittens.  I could go on and on with all the reasons I love this little one so enormously!
So when I asked her what she wanted to do for her 6th birthday photos, she asked if she could have a big bunch of balloons – another one of her favorite things.  🙂
So here she is, with her birthday balloons!

HAPPY 6th BIRTHDAY CATIE!  I hope this year is as beautiful and delightful as you are!  Enjoy your special day KayKay!

“The Gift”

Oh, how wonderful to see such a refreshing splash of beautiful, radiant color amidst the gray and brown hues of this Pennsylvania winter of ours.  Check out this gorgeous scarf!!!  It was made by one of the nicest, loveliest, most talented people I know.  I long for the day when I am able to take that ball of yarn that has been sitting in the “knitting bag” in my closet for about a year now, and turn it into something as beautiful as this!  Thank you so much, Sandra, for all of the time you dedicate to our little ones.  You are a tremendous gift and it is truly a blessing to have you in our lives!  XOXO
